More4, Loving The Daily Show In The UK, ERs Back & Here Comes The OC!

I wrote previously about getting US shows in the UK. One of the best things recently was the launch of More4 in October. It picks up a number of shows that were on E4 earlier, such as The West Wing, along with some new ones. Best of all was The Daily Show with Jon Stewart coming over.

Until it arrived on Britain's fair shores, I'd heard about the show occasionally but never actually seen it. Now I'm hooked, simply laughing out loud at the political send-ups. The show's only a day out of sync -- I just watched yesterday's show from the US today.

The only problem I have is that Rand Fishkin over at SEOMoz uses Jon Stewart's picture as his avatar at SEO Chat. So since I didn't really know Jon Stewart -- nor had I seen any other picture of Rand other than this ages ago, Rand got locked in my mind as looking like Jon Stewart!

More4's on Sky and a number of other digital providers, as listed here. Hey, there's even a Wikipedia entry about it. The "adult entertainment" campaign announcing it had me fooled. I thought Channel 4 really decided they should get into porn. I guess they'll leave that to 5.

Tonight was also the first episode of the new season of ER. ER has played in Britain on Thursday nights for ages -- and we used to get it along with Friends and usually another American show to the degree that I could count on Thursday as "American TV night."

First new episode? Yes, I know, American viewers are midway through at this point. But believe me, being only three months behind isn't bad. Plus -- no reruns. While those in the US will be watching midseason repeats, we carry right along and will have our season end a week or two after the US.

Meanwhile, The OC comes back for its third season debut next Tuesday at 9pm. I'll definitely be downstairs and no longer working in time for that. It's like having a little slice of home broadcast right to me -- though it would be nice if they actually filmed more in Newport. Still, they do have the occasional setting shots and though it's stupid, I'll still pause the picture to have a moment of looking at the Balboa Peninsula right there on my TV in the UK.

When my wife first came out to live with me in Orange County, I tried to explain to her how the world really revolves around OC. She didn't believe me, despite the fact that my job and that of my friends was to ensure any story going into the Orange County Edition of the LA Times was properly "orafied" to play up any Orange County angle. Today, she simply accepts the reality when the show is broadcast each week. Not hard -- she loves it too.
