Oblong-Shaped, Glass-Friendly Oreo Dunkers Coming

I never bought Oreos much when I was living at home in the US. But now that I live abroad, they are one of those things I'm always picking up to bring back to the UK. The kids, of course, love them. And my youngest loves to dunk them. Good news, son. This summer new Oreo Dunkers are coming, oblong Oreos that can more easily fit into your glass.

Oreo Cookies Get A New Shape at AdAge (free reg. required) has more about the move. It's a trial that will last two months, and the results will decide if Oreo Dunkers will remain a permanent item.

A quick web search turns up that this is at least the second time around for the Dunkers name. Oreo Magic Dunkers apparently came out in 2000 and turned your milk and your mouth blue. Here's a press release with more.

Ah, the beauty of web search. A search on oreo dunkers also brought up this Kraft press release from 2004, where there was a survey on how people eat Oreos. In terms of dunking:

  • 20 percent said they dunk

  • 87 percent of dunkers use milk (my kid's one of the oddities that prefers water, ugh)

  • 70 percent dunk for 1 to 5 seconds

  • Women are more likely to dunk

  • Dunkers are more likely to live in the Northeast or Midwest of the US

  • Dunkers are more likely to be single

  • Dunkers are athletic, hip-seeking city dwellers

  • Dunkers are Republicans

I've never been a dunker of Oreos simply because the filling in the middle discourages good dunking quality to me. I don't want to bite through a soft coating to hit that harder layer. Now a good box of graham or cinnamon crackers, or some nice chocolate chip cookies, yum.

Oreo Dunkers have apparently arrived. Pictures of the packages here and here. As for the official Oreo site itself, it lamely fails to list these among any of the varieties. By Danny Sullivan on Apr. 6, 2006 | Permalink
