No Liquids Before Boarding The US Embassy In London, Either

Surely everyone knows now about the ban on liquids and gels before boarding planes in many airports. But who knew that you can't go into a US Embassy with them? That was a surprise to me today, when I went to the US Embassy in London to renew my passport. We were told to dispose of any liquids before going through the security checkpoint. Passing through, I also saw several boxes of gels and even a jar of mayonnaise that had been left behind by visitors to the embassy, to reclaim later.
