My Much Better Widescreen Multimonitor Setup Than Chris Pirillo's
See, Chris Pirillo is all excited because he has two widescreen monitors. I mock your setup, Chris! As readers know, I'm a long time multiple monitor user. A few months ago, I went for a widescreen in the middle: It rocks. It rocks mainly because when using outlook, I can have folder view on the left, item view in the middle and reading pane on the right. It's all nice and makes use of the screen properly. The only thing that sucks is that the resolutions of the twin 20" monitors don't match the widescreen one. So if I drag from one place to the other, it's a slight adjustment when things get bigger. I suspect the cure will be three widescreen monitors in all. FYI, for the curious, here's a look at my office in general:
And over here: In the picture above, we can easily see the answer to Michael Gray's question of whether I am a Space: 1999 fan. Look at that dresser, Michael. See the cool looking futuristic TV in the middle? (It IS cool -- and it does work, at least in the US). See it on top? See it. Yes, that's an Eagle. Next to Thunderbird 2. By the Robison's robot. Near the Borg Cube. Across from the working transporter. By Danny Sullivan on Apr. 24, 2007 | PermalinkSee related posts in: Multiple Monitors
Next Post: Our Dog Daisy Comments Comment by Joe Duck First pic--three sites that have big margins--you've got the equivalent of one monitor's worth of wasted space! :) However it looks like you have optimal mail setup in the middle. True Nirvana is rotating two 24" monitors 90 degrees. You can have two large, long windows and save your scrolling finger. Or, you can have 2 x 2 normal sized browser windows. Comment by Brian White You are, of course, so right Brian. I almost mentioned that part -- that I might spin the two side widescreens vertically, so I could read more of a long page. I'm concerned the look would be off, however. What's more important -- usability or looks? And yeah -- that middle screen gets used much more when I'm staring at Outlook. But to show that, I had to work to you know, check what email was showing and stuff. So I went with a browser shot for now. Comment by Danny Sullivan I think that people do double-takes at the two vertical monitors, but they get used to it. Usability, baby :) The other factor is that the horizontal side-by-side was making my neck hurt. Up-down movements seem to be more natural, but that's just anecdotal. Comment by Brian White Danny, is that a 3.5" floppy disk on your desk I see? ... just kidding. Well done! I like your setup. Best. Comment by Marek Wawrzyniak And of course, there's still the "MasterPlex to contend with... I think that'd be a 30" center with 5 20.1" "wings" (2 in portrait) Comment by burlingtonslopes | April 25, 2007 3:22 PM I bet you're jealous of my single monitor setup. Nice Danny - thanks for the ideas. About monitor configurations that is. I liked Space 1999 but probably won't invest in any memorabilia.
