I live in Exeter, Devon (England). I never knew we had that much of an influence – especially ‘chat’! I think one word I’ve noticed coming over from America is ‘snuck’ – ‘I snuck out the back’. I say ‘sneaked’ but maybe thats just me…
Interesting stuff – oh and another word for ‘knackered’, that you might hear is ‘cream-crackered’ – ‘phew, I’m cream-crackered’! I dunno where that came from!

I though that
Palm foward was the V for victory (ala Winston Chrchill) and the back of the hand was the rude feck off version.

Ha ha! I lived with a Brit for a year about 5 years ago – I still use “sorted” all the time. My favorite time to say it is after someone gets something done – “SORTED!”
So good.
Also a big fan of “proper”…

I know I catch myself using these British-isms a lot more lately, but it’s partly because it’s a Brit I speak to most often. A friend once suggested that it was people like us, writers, that are likely to pick these things up most quickly, because we’re attuned to communicating in people’s own language.
A note on “sorted.” You mention the context as being getting something “sorted out.” I mostly hear people say “now, that’s sorted” without the “out.” The “out” part seems American.
