New Year’s Resolutions

by on December 31, 2008

in Life

I’m not a big New Year’s Resolutions maker, but I thought I’d do a few for 2009. Stop Chewing My Cheek What the hell am I doing in that photo? Andy Beal shot it, thought it would make a funny caption contest but kindly decided to check with me first. I told him what I [...]

I’m a regular user of the Balboa Boardwalk here in Newport Beach, a three mile strip of concrete that runs along the beach and is used by walkers, joggers, bicyclists, inline skaters, scofflaw skateboarders and others. For the first time in years, the future of the boardwalk is being seriously examined. Should it be made [...]

Oh, Ivar. I welcome you back into my life. It’s been too long, my old friend. The smell of your freshly cut pine (are you pine?) once again fills my office nook. Your presence brings me nearly full circle through my life of home furnishing. I thought you were gone, but you return once again, [...]

Bungee Jumping Through Life

I’ve kind of joked that this year I wanted to become fully proficient at it. I once saw a guy playing ping-pong while smoking. Smack the ball, the cigarette perched [...]

Feeling short of time. No problem! February, which normally has 28 days or 29 in a leap year (like 2008), is getting 31 days in 2009. Or so it seems according to the no parking sign above that’s been posted in the parking lot in front of the Newport Beach Pier. Enjoy those extra days.

For those who aren’t aware, much news is “embargoed,” which means a news publication receives information ahead of an agreed release date. There are good reasons for embargoes. But they sometimes get broken, which can be frustrating for those other publications that play by the rules. Michael Arrington today at TechCrunch has had his frustration [...]

My oldest son came home the other day, asking to shave his head. Shave his head? Turns out, a friend of his in school had a relapse after a first bout with leukemia. He has to do another round of chemotherapy with the resulting hair loss. So, some of the kids in the school decided [...]
