As Niall

notes
, world famous footballer David Beckham is to join the LA Galaxy in
July. I saw this earlier and mentioned it at dinner tonight to my sons, one of
who loves David Beckham simply because he’s the only footballer he really knows.

He was thrilled, since despite being half British, he’s got a strong sense of
American patriotism in him. To prove this, he told me he hoped David would be OK
playing with those big uniforms and being tackled. Bless — he knows Daddy
thinks football means American football so thought I meant Beckham was going to
play an entirely new sport.

My son also has a special kinship with Beckham. He ended up driving little
kiddy cars in the same group as Beckham’s oldest son three years ago at Legoland.
Beckham just turned up for the day, and the ended up in the same group. Oddly,
despite that bonding, David never calls, he never writes…

By the way, I finally got around to uploading that clip of me on the BBC at
the World Cup, along with Dave Naylor to the right side and Tim Mayer (next up)

Danny, from your experience of both sides of the Atlantic, do you think he can bring £128m worth of value to footy in the US?

I think this will do great things for soccer in the US. I am even more excited that his first game will likely be in my home city of Dallas!

Thinking of dropping your link spam? Consider this. Seriously, STOP & READ. The guy who runs Google's spam fighting team? I know him pretty well. In fact, it's sort of a joke between us to see what's the latest absurd link drop I can share. So if you want your site to be a poster child on his idiots wall -- and probably to encounter a Google penalty -- go ahead, drop your link. It's nofollow anyway, plus I do have built-in spam fighting and what gets past that usually gets nabbed in a few minutes to a few hours. So you got to ask yourself. Are you feeling lucky?
