Google Reader Sez: You Have No Fun

Playing with Google Reader tonight, I used the Browse link next to the Add
Subscription link to see what Reader recommends. They have four "feed bundles,"
one which is called "Fun."

I’m up for fun, especially when it means I’ll get video from Stephen Colbert
or The Daily Show sent to me. Both are part of the fun bundle. So I sign up,
then I go to view my fun things. Oh no! No fun:

Google Reader: You Have No Fun Items

That cracked me up. I think I used the Show All setting to quickly
bring Fun back into reader.

The entire thing reminded me of a classic Voyager episode when Seven Of Nine
was in charge of a bunch of kids. She had them on a strict schedule, and Chakotay
told her they also needed to have fun.

"I’ve scheduled recreational activities,"
she tells him, pulling up their schedule on the screen. In big letters, in a one
hour slot, the word Fun is written. You can see it yourself
here.

Thinking of dropping your link spam? Consider this. Seriously, STOP & READ. The guy who runs Google's spam fighting team? I know him pretty well. In fact, it's sort of a joke between us to see what's the latest absurd link drop I can share. So if you want your site to be a poster child on his idiots wall -- and probably to encounter a Google penalty -- go ahead, drop your link. It's nofollow anyway, plus I do have built-in spam fighting and what gets past that usually gets nabbed in a few minutes to a few hours. So you got to ask yourself. Are you feeling lucky?
