I just posted about the struggle to find my lost DS Lite left behind on a recent British Airways flight. That’s strike two with me recently for the airline, with strike one being my fun experience in Munich not being able to board an earlier flight. But in fairness, I’ve been meaning to write about another flight with them where BA came through with flying colors.
It was when I was coming back from our SES Toronto trip. I plunked down my eticket information, then was shocked out of airline check in desk boredom when I was told the flight I was booked on wasn’t going until the next day.
What?!!!
Turns out, the travel agent had accidentally booked me in on the wrong day. I’d double-checked dates before booking literally about three times, but I failed to do that crucial last check when the ticket was finally issued. It was indeed for the next day.
I got shunted over to another desk, where the clerk told me changing it would be hugely expensive. Then after a little typing, she handed me a ticket to get me out that day — in fact, out on a flight earlier than I’d originally planned (I’d gotten to the airport very early, so had plenty of time to make this).
So thank you, BA. It was totally a case where they didn’t have to do this, though I suspect that perhaps the flight I was on the next day was overbooked. That was the case with the original flight I thought I was getting on.

Grrr… it’s dangerous to get me started about British Air!
While on the whole I’ve found all the BA folks to be kind and cordial, BA is one of worst airlines I’ve dealt with overall.
- Booking is abysmal!!!
I booked a multi-leg flight directly on ba.com and a few weeks in advance of a trip and then soon after wanted to change one of the legs. It took THREE phone calls (“Sir, I’ll forward your request to our change desk… please call us back in 1-2 days”) to get the change made!
- Food is worse than awful
And I thought U.S. carriers had crappy food. Yes, yes, I know all the jokes about British food, but seriously… I wasn’t sure whether I was eating veggies or spooning soup, and the chicken resembled something ‘tween silly putty and tofu. And for breakfast, they were trying to kill us with sugar apparently: yogurt, cookie, fruit in syrup, and orange juice, I kidd you not.
Blech. Never again will I willingly fly this airline!
Well if you think BA is bad to fly with imagine what it is like to work for them.
I left the airline 3 months ago after 2 and a half years of working for a company that doesn’t value employees and just treats them as numbers. I had 2 weeks leave owing and this was deducted form my final wage. I have now found a job with a major international airline and I am very happy but guess what ?….3 months later I have received a letter demanding I pay GBP600.00 within 14 days or else !!! They make RyanAir look good and that takes some hard work !
