The Pita Pit - Newport Beach

I’d never heard of Pita Pit until a trip to Mammoth Mountain a few weeks ago. It was a nice change from the usual fast-food options, pita sandwiches, custom made. So I was thrilled to see that one was opening just around the block from me here in Newport Beach, on the Balboa Peninsula. Yesterday was opening day!

As you can see, it was crowded. Amazingly so. There had been no promotion about the opening. I talked to one guy in the store who said that day, they’d distributed a few flyers around in local businesses. But pretty much, they seemed to have tapped into a Balboa Peninsula lunch audience that was looking for a change.

After all, there’s only so much Chronic Tacos that you can eat. But if you haven’t, do. They’ve got the best tacos.

The store is open 8am-11pm, which is great if you need that late night snack made by someone else. They’re also looking to see if they can get extended hours from the city for weekends.

Yeah, I had them in Mammoth too! I was chatting a few years back with one of the Chronic Tacos owners…. that spot they got for the first store right at the entrance to the penninsula is a prime spot, he said the were offered 50k to give over the lease by a Japanese food restaurant that wanted the space, right after they got the space…. so they knew they were off to a good start…. it’s a simple but great concept, or more neighborhood version of Chipotle… good stuff …. I’ve been away up in LA for a couple of years and I keep seeing new Chronic Tacos every time I’m in the OC … with all that cash they’re making, their trucks must be jacked up 15 feet or so and they must be totally covered in tats by now… :)

Thinking of dropping your link spam? Consider this. Seriously, STOP & READ. The guy who runs Google's spam fighting team? I know him pretty well. In fact, it's sort of a joke between us to see what's the latest absurd link drop I can share. So if you want your site to be a poster child on his idiots wall -- and probably to encounter a Google penalty -- go ahead, drop your link. It's nofollow anyway, plus I do have built-in spam fighting and what gets past that usually gets nabbed in a few minutes to a few hours. So you got to ask yourself. Are you feeling lucky?
