Although a bit dated, this is a highly comprehensive coverage of the online news search/aggregation space, Danny.

Would love to read a recap on this from you.

It's not just blogs that the MSM uses. YouTube videos, flickr photos, Facebook photos, etc. are all regularly used by print and broadcast outlets without seeking permission. (At best, there's a credit identifying the source/URL.)

Nice article Danny,

Wow News Corp in my opinion just don't get it, its not like aggregators are going to die or stop being used they have been around for hundreds of years in different ways like radio and TV.

And TV and radio is even worse because if the radio reports a story you have written or parts of it (the headline) it will most likely have a less positive effect on your business/the creator of the story than the online aggregators that openly link to their sources.

News Corp should either accept that aggregators are here and are here to stay or they will become martyrs for their less than worthy cause.

Just my two pence.

Danny,

To someone that is trying to understand the total picture you have made it so clear, in fact crystal clear. You are leading others to realize that there is a need to foster the "attitude of gratitude(Mrs. R. Zaman)" by mankind in general and specifically on the world wide web.
Sincerely my thanks for your many efforts to enlighten others,
Jim

Great article Danny. Do you think if the index were to be run by a non-profit and licensed to anyone, a lot of the fuss over indexing might be avoided (and also cut down on Internet traffic from all the robots)? Google's founders originally were serious about search engine's being non-profit. (http://bit.ly/5ERCCI) Afterall, surely the real value is in the analysis, in the algorithm.
