I’m doing the same right now! Sick of paying through the roof in extra insurance premiums also. Sold the iPhone and Macbook Pro today, ordering a Windows 7 laptop with better specs and STILL making a tidy profit.

My main reason though, is that most things I do now are web-based. Gmail / Google Calendar, games etc, is all web-based. I really don’t mind which platform I’m on at all – its not as important as it used to be.

Danny, have you considered flipping this around, and running MacOS in VMWare Workstation under Windows (maybe even on your Macbook)? The Hackintosh guys have sorted that out pretty well.

I have almost the same story… It seems that the new line of macs maybe tied to the rumor-line that Jobs has lost interest in laptops, so even though they greatly accelerated the laptop industry, we might have seen the peak of their contribution.. Now it’s too late, While Apple is sleeping the PC guys seem to be finally able to build better hardware and windows 7 is the strongest operating system shipping [imho]. If your willing to break your savings account, Sony is just about to give me all the leftover features I did like on my MBP with the New Z (especially Back-lit keyboard)..

Dave, yes.

Hey, I know I’m in a unique situation. But then again, let’s remember. This is the company that can’t help but constantly release new products. I think I read somewhere that this is the longest gap between new MacBook versions being released.

And Kyle, I did like the advice that I don’t have to have a Mac to be part of the cool club. It just might be that ultimately, Windows 7 makes more sense for me, and I shouldn’t feel so bad or out of it not being on the Mac. But I’d also found the Mac was a wonderful machine to run Windows on.

So Apple’s mistakes are allowing a 2 year old MacBook to break and not releasing a new range of products (that might not actually even exist) to coincide with it.

I have been thinking the same thing. I have been a Mac user since 2004, and I have been very Happy. But lately I have felt restricted by many things on the platform, mainly lack of choice. Windows 7 is a very nice operating system. I am considering switching.

Kyle, I was attracted to the Mac because with VMware, I could run my favorite Windows apps and have the nice things the Mac offered, as well. Yes, I want both. And I had both that worked quite well. But I’m using more monitors now, plus as I’ve explained, things have just felt more sluggish lately. I’m ready for a new laptop either way. The main point is that if Apple would just get the new Macbooks out, they’d be keeping me. Heck, I wouldn’t have moved to Windows 7 in the first place if my Mac hadn’t crashed. But once I’m there, harder to leave.

Not a very fair comparison. You compare Windows on a laptop to Mac + Windows + VMware? That’s nuts. It also shouldn’t surprise you that MSFT apps are better on Windows than Apple. It seems like you like everything about your Windows 7 experience more than your Mac experience so just ditch the Mac. You won’t be kicked out of the cool club. I use both and love Mac but don’t fight it if you don’t.
