Welcome To Daggle

in About Daggle

What’s Daggle? It’s my personal blog, where
I’m writing about things other than search. If you’re after what I have to say
on the subject of search, then you want
Search Engine Land
.
Daggle’s about other things in my life.

In particular, I’ll probably be writing about what it’s like to be an US
expat in Britain. I’ve lived over here for about eight years now, believing my
British wife that the weather would be much nicer than sunny Southern
California, where I’m from originally. OK, that’s not what I was expecting. Love
makes you do crazy things, so damn the weather, I said I’d move.

I’ll also probably write a bit about gadgets and stuff I play with. One
reason I wanted to keep the blog is so I have an easy way to remember some of
the things I discover when playing with a new toy, software, etc. I hope
blogging some of it will help others, as I’ve been helped by reading what others
have written myself.

Why Daggle? A long time ago, someone did a list of the remaining short domain
names that were left. I saw that daggle.com was on the list. Of course, this was
probably because of the
definition of
Daggle, which I didn’t stop to consider:

To trail, so as to wet or befoul; to make wet and limp; to moisten.

I don’t know how much I’ll be wetting or befouling things on the blog, but I
still like the sound of the word! So I went with it.

Thinking of dropping your link spam? Consider this. Seriously, STOP & READ. The guy who runs Google's spam fighting team? I know him pretty well. In fact, it's sort of a joke between us to see what's the latest absurd link drop I can share. So if you want your site to be a poster child on his idiots wall -- and probably to encounter a Google penalty -- go ahead, drop your link. It's nofollow anyway, plus I do have built-in spam fighting and what gets past that usually gets nabbed in a few minutes to a few hours. So you got to ask yourself. Are you feeling lucky?
