Having the names be so similar contributes to the confusion. Personally, I thought you had simply renamed Search Engine Watch to Search Engine Land, and didn't realize that Watch existed anymore.

Matthew, you can comment on any story at Search Engine Land, which is one way to get involved. We also take contributed pieces. Contact Chris Sherman using the contact form over there about that that.

Being involved in something like Search Engine Land seems like it'd be a great opportunity for an SEO. How would an SEO like myself get involved in a site like yours, both to continue learning the trade, and to help folks out by spreading information and helping others like myself.

The concept is so difficult because to most people, myself included, you WERE Search Engine Watch. It isn't that you helped them build their brand - it is that you WERE the brand. Look at it another way - Osama Bin Laden might leave the Taliban someday to go work for the terrorist group Towelibon - making sugary cinnamon buns in a shopping mall - but he and his name will probably remain synonamous with Taliban. If the Taliban uses his name in dastardly fund-raisers after he leaves, it is more a compliment of the value of his name than a statement on his shopping mall strengths. :-)
